How To Get The Most Out of Your Yoga Sessions
Honor Your Body
Yoga is a personal practice not a competitive or comparative one. Each of us has our own individual levels of strength, flexibility, and experience. Please do not push yourself too far, too soon. You are the only one who knows how you’re feeling at any moment, so listen to the wisdom of your body and take care of yourself.
Arrive Early
Please arrive 15 minutes before your very first class. This will allow time to complete a registration form and pay for your class. When attending weekly classes, try to get to class ten minutes before class starts. This will allow time to find your spot without having to rush.
What to Wear
Wear clothing you can move easily in. No baggy clothes please. Please avoid wearing heavy jewelry. Bare feet are essential! We recommend that you leave any valuables in your locked car.
Please Do Not Wear Perfumes and Colognes
Because classes involve breath work and deep breathing, it is considerate to avoid the use of perfumes, colognes and even essential oils.
What to Bring: Mats and Props
We recommend that you have your own mat to start. All props (mats, straps, bolsters, blocks and eye pillows) are available for purchase at the studio.
When To Eat or Drink Before Class
Yoga practice works all the internal organs as well as the outer body. It is best to have an empty or near empty stomach during your practice. Try to allow yourself two to three hours after a full meal before you practice. A light snack two hours before class is recommended.
Please Turn Off All Electronics
It is very distracting for other students to hear the beep, ring or vibrate of a cell phone in the middle of yoga practice.
Are You Dealing with an Injury or Illness
If you have any physical problems or medical conditions, be sure to let your teacher know before class so they can modify poses for you accordingly.
Socialize Before and After Class
Once the teacher starts class please refrain from talking to classmates. This helps you focus on your practice.
Leaving Class Early is Disruptive
Though it may be hard to believe, the last pose of your class is actually the most important pose. If you know that you have to leave before relaxation starts, please sit near the door and leave before everyone gets into the relaxation position.
