What is Hatha Yoga?

Yoga is an ancient science developed over thousands of years by seekers of health, balance and enlightenment.  The yoga tradition integrates the body, mind and spirit and emphasizes the importance of performing all of one's daily responsibilities skillfully and with devotion.

Yoga is not a religion.  It does not profess any particular beliefs in God.  Yoga simply empowers the individual to act with awareness, integrity and compassion for all creation.  In yoga class, each person's level of health and physical ability is taken into account, so each student obtains maximum benefit for their yoga practice.

What is Iyengar Yoga?

The Iyengar tradition is names after B.K.S. Iyengar, who practices and has taught Hatha Yoga for more than 50 years.  He emphasizes standing poses to develop stamina, balance and good body alignment.  He introduced the use of props such as blocks, belts, mats and blankets.  The Iyengar tradition also emphasizes specific sequencing and individualized adjustment of postures for each student.
